Abstract

The "celebration" or post-crisis period is not merely a moment of festivity but an opportunity for tension release, reinvention, collective creativity, and the creation of new identities and relationships. This symposium proposes to examine how, from an economic and organizational perspective, societies reshape, rebuild, and find new avenues for transformation after times of crisis, both systemically and discursively.

Argument

After exploring the dynamics associated with periods of economic collapse during the symposium "The World in Crisis(es)" (Orléans, May 2024), this year, we turn our attention to the forces of transformation and renewal that emerge after such challenging times. While an economic crisis represents a moment of rupture and upheaval, the post-crisis period can be viewed as a "celebration" in the broadest sense.

Here, the "celebration" or post-crisis period is not merely a moment of festivity but an opportunity for tension release, reinvention, collective creativity, and the creation of new identities and relationships.

This symposium proposes to examine how, from an economic and organizational perspective, societies reshape, rebuild, and find new avenues for transformation after times of crisis, both systemically and discursively.

Topics

Axis 1 : The Economy of Recovery and Renewal

In a post-crisis context, the economy often reorganizes around new practices, models, and structural changes. This dynamic can be analyzed from various perspectives :

  • The economy and managerial strategies after a crisis : How do organizations (such as businesses, companies, NGOs, etc.) recover economically after a major crisis, whether it is health-related, financial, environmental, etc. ? What economic models and organizational and managerial strategies emerge in this post-crisis phase ?
  • New forms of work and organization : Economic crises often disrupt established work models. What transformations are observed in work, production methods, and management practices in the post-crisis era ? How do companies reconfigure their internal processes and governance models to adapt to this new context ?
  • The celebration economy : Historically, periods of economic recovery have often been accompanied by moments of festivity and joy. How are these festive, social, or cultural events themselves indicators or drivers of recovery ?

Axis 2 : Discourses and Representations of Renewal

Following crisis discourses, the discourse on economic recovery becomes a powerful lever for social and political mobilization. The vocabulary of economic renewal, celebration, and transformation is central to political, media, and popular narratives. This second axis aims to analyze how narratives of economic recovery influence collective perceptions, political orientations, and collective imaginations. Contributions may address :

  • Political discourses on renewal : What narratives do political leaders and organization heads construct to support the post-crisis recovery ? How is the rhetoric of renewal used to encourage recovery, both economically and in terms of management and organizational innovation ?
  • The role of media, businesses, and civil society : How do the media contribute to building a collective perception of the post-crisis period ? How do civil society and companies appropriate these narratives to foster a resilience dynamic ? What strategies do companies adopt to project an image of renewal to their stakeholders ?
  • Celebrations and rituals as expressions of change : Can festive events be considered reflections or catalysts of social and economic transformation ? How do societies and organizations reappropriate the concept of celebration to mark a fresh start ?
