Argument

The humanities serve as a fundamental pillar in the academic and research fabric, providing a deeper understanding of humans and societies from varying perspectives e.g., literature, linguistics, philosophy, history, sociology, anthropology, etc. The field occupies a vital and dialectic space, blending observation, description, analysis, critique, empirical rigor, and interpretative depth. It resorts to multidisciplinary methodologies—such as ethnographic studies, documentary research, and philosophical reasoning—to demystify the complexities of human experiences and cultural narratives. The humanities further cultivate individuals’ critical thinking, enabling them to navigate the intricacies of identity, creativity, and historical awareness while also allowing analytical and communication skills to burgeon. Thanks to the profound understanding of cultural and social values that shape collective identity, individuals are equipped with the essential awareness to address contemporary challenges. Based on freedom, respect for diversity, and human dignity, the humanities foster positive values and espouse an inclusive and reflective society.

The humanities further enrich public awareness and empower individuals through engagement with cultural, ethical, and political discussions, thereby empowering individuals to make more informed decisions. Their ability to engage with fundamental, societal issues highlights their enduring significance in shaping critical perspectives and intellectual discourse.

The positive roles and diverse functions that the humanities have established over time have enabled the humanities scholar to surpass traditional boundaries, leading to a reflection of societies and their standing among nations. The growing economic significance of the humanities has further been reinforced by emerging conceptual shifts centered around cultural economy, cultural investment, and cultural diversity.

All this has prompted advanced nations to recognize the intellectual capital generated by the humanities, leading to the strengthening of institutions dedicated to their production and development, which in turn has enabled fulfilling functions more effectively and expanding their impact.

Building on this, Soroud Journal dedicates its upcoming 10th issue to exploring the state and prospects of scientific and literary research in the humanities through descriptive, analytical, critical, and comparative approaches, focusing on the following themes:
