Two postdoctoral researchers will be recruited from January 1, 2026 for two years at CEFRES. They will be both affiliated to CEFRES and to a relevant department for their research at Charles University (UK).

Charles University (UK) and CEFRES jointly finance two high-quality postdoctoral research fellows who reside elsewhere than the Czech Republic when applying  and have also defended their PhD dissertation in a university outside the Czech Republic.

The position is 24-months contract starting on January 1, 2026 at CEFRES.

The gross monthly salary is 47 258 CZK (1887 €) as of June 16, 2025 and may be subject to raise in the months to follow.

Thispostdoctoral position is intended for researchers whose research project can be part of one of CEFRES’ three research areas:

1 – Displacements, “Dépaysements” and Discrepancies: People, Knowledge & Practices
2 – Norms & Transgressions
3 – Objects, Traces, Mapping: Everyday Experience of Spaces

Eligibility criteria

• Be a high-level young researcher from abroad (resident of a country out of the Czech Republic), who defended a PhD dissertation no more than 5 years prior to the application deadline in a university outside the Czech Republic (exceptions to this rule apply for parental or medical leave; for other reasons please contact us directly).
• Conducting a research befitting one of the CEFRES Research areas (postdoc 1) or a specific research project (postdoc 2)
• Good command of English is mandatory, French is a plus.

Counterparts

UK-CEFRES postdoc research fellow is expected to:

• contribute through her or his own research to the research area, within which she or he applies;
• take part in the scientific life of the CEFRES;
• submit a yearly report on their research to the director of CEFRES;
• come to live in Prague from January 1, 2026.

Evaluation

The applications will be evaluated by a commission chaired by CEFRES Director and composed of researchers from and outside of the CEFRES, to represent the applicants’ various disciplines.

Research projects dedicated to objects located in Central Europe, connected to this area and other areas, or in comparison with other “cultural areas”, will be prioritized.

1/ The application form duly filled in (to be downloaded here). The application form includes the description of the personal research project and must:

1. specify the CEFRES research area you want to apply to and how the personal project will benefit it;
2. include:
   • an explanation on the methodology and inputs of your own research, as well as a selected bibliography (max. 1 page-long)
   • expected outcomes (publications, conferences, and so forth).

2/ One letter of reference from the former PhD supervisor of the candidate. Please use the following model form to be downloaded here. The letter must mention the title of the PhD thesis, the date of defense etc.
3/ A detailed CV
4/ A list of publications
5/ A copy of the PhD diploma

Les recherches dont l’objet est situé dans l’espace de l’Europe centrale, à la jonction de cet espace et d’autres espaces ou encore en comparaison avec d’autres “aires culturelles”, seront privilégiées.

Ce poste est CDD d’un an, renouvelables une fois, qui débutent le 1er janvier 2026.

Le salaire brut mensuel est de 47 258 CZK (1887 € au taux de chancellerie en vigueur).

Les post-doctorant.es CEFRES-UK seront affilié.es au CEFRES et à un département de l’une des facultés de SHS de l’Université Charles, en fonction de leur discipline principale.

Dossier de candidature

• le formulaire de candidature dûment rempli (à télécharger ici). Ce formulaire inclut la description du projet de recherche personnel, lequel doit :
  • spécifier l’axe de recherche du CEFRES dans lequel le projet s’inscrit et expliquer comment la recherche personnelle y contribue ;
  • inclure une explication de la méthodologie et de l’originalité de la recherche, de même qu’une bibliographie qui n’excédera pas une page.

• une lettre de recommandation de l’ancien directeur de thèse (à télécharger ici). La lettre doit comprendre une déclaration mentionnant le titre de la thèse, la date de soutenance, etc.

• une copie du diplôme de thèse

Critères d’éligibilité

• Être un.e jeune chercheur.se de haut niveau, résidant hors de République tchèque au moment de la candidature et ayant soutenu sa thèse pas plus de 5 ans avant la date-limite de candidature dans une université en dehors de République tchèque (les congès parentaux et médicaux donnent droit à une exception ; pour toutes les autres raisons, merci de contacter le CEFRES directement).
• Conduire une recherche qui contribuera à l’un des axes de recherche du CEFRES (Post-doc 1) ou au projet Tandem (Post-doc 2).
• Une bonne maîtrise de l’anglais est obligatoire, celle du français est un avantage.

Attentes

Il est attendu des post-doctorant.es UK-CEFRES qu’il.elles :

• contribuent par leur recherche personnelle à l’axe/au projet de recherche dans le cadre duquel ils ont candidaté,
• prennent part à la vie scientifique du CEFRES,
• remettent un rapport annuel au directeur du CEFRES,
• résident à Prague à partir du 1er janvier 2026.

Les candidatures seront évaluées par une commission présidée par le directeur du CEFRES et composée de chercheur.ses internes et externes au CEFRES afin de représenter les différentes disciplines des candidats.
