Presentation
The French Society for Music Analysis (SFAM) and the ACCRA laboratory (Approches Contemporaines de la Création et de la Réflexion Artistiques - UR 3402) of the University of Strasbourg are pleased to announce the Study Day for Young Researchers in Musical Analysis and Theory 2026 (JJC 2026). This event will offer master's and doctoral students from universities and conservatoires, as well as post-doctoral researchers, the opportunity to share their current and completed research in musical analysis and theory.
This year's theme is “New dynamics in musical analysis and theory”.
The event will take place on January 23, 2026 at the University of Strasbourg, in the Amphitheatre and Meeting Room of the Collège Doctoral Européen (CDE), 46 Bd de la Victoire, 67 000 Strasbourg.
Young researchers will be invited to explore how new methodological and conceptual dynamics (computational approaches, Music information retrieval, artificial intelligence, interdisciplinary approaches, research-creation, etc.) are redefining the fields of music analysis and theory. This meeting, focusing on the questions raised by these new dynamics, will be an opportunity to create a fertile dialogue between different profiles of young music analysts and theorists. This study day will also highlight the diversity of approaches and corpuses, from the most traditional to the most marginalized, from the most popular to the most institutionalized.
Submission guidelines
Papers will take the form of 20-minute presentations followed by a 10-minute discussion period. Proposals may be submitted in French or English.
All proposals will be evaluated by the event’s scientific committee. They should be sent to contact@sfam.org
before September 15, 2025.
Authors will be notified of acceptance on October 10, 2025.
For non-members of the ACCRA laboratory, participation in JJC 2026 is conditional on all authors becoming 2025 members of the French Society for Music Analysis.
