Presentation
The ACQuA 2026 conference on February 9 and 10, 2026 marks the second national meeting of the French chapter of Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology. As last year, the event will feature a variety of formats to encourage interaction, dialogue, and networking among archaeologists with an interest in computational and quantitative approaches. Various formats will be offered during the two days of the meeting: two short sessions (early career researchers' forum and “I've tested it for you!” forum), a poster session and a thematic session, with calls for papers; a round table on the uses of AI in archaeology and the humanities and social sciences.
Thematic Session
On the occasion of the International Year of Pastoralism and Pastures, the CAA-FR wishes to highlight these topics and, more broadly, landscapes and society/environment relations. Papers may focus on a variety of themes, such as desertification, transhumance, and migratory routes. More broadly, proposals dealing with how past societies interacted with, managed, or modified their environment on broader scales than micro-local ones are particularly welcome. Regardless of the theme, these presentations should include a reflection on the contributions of computational and quantitative approaches to the study of these objects.
Expected format: 15-minute oral presentations.
To propose a thematic paper, we expect a 300-word abstract (excluding bibliography) and 3 to 5 bibliographical references.
Poster Session
Poster proposals may be submitted on any topic related to Computational and Quantitative Approaches in Archaeology. They will be exhibited throughout the conference, and a session of short (5-minute) oral presentations of the posters will be organized. The authors of the posters agree to attend both days of the conference.
To submit a poster proposal, we expect a 200-words abstract.
Forums
To participate in either of these forums, we expect a 200-word abstract.
Early Career Researchers
We invite PhD students and early career researchers practicing Computational and Quantitative Approaches in Archaeology to present the methodological aspects of their research in a short format.
Expected format: short presentations of the methodological issues or questions addressed in the research, lasting a maximum of 10 minutes. The presentation of results is not mandatory (especially for PhD students at the beginning of their PhD).
I've tested it for you!
We invite participants to present ready-to-use software applications, research software (e.g., implementation of statistical algorithms in R or Python), as well as scripted “toolboxes” (such as Little Minions), which are written by and for researchers.
Expected format: short presentations showing how to use a tool—in the broadest sense of the term—based on a project, lasting a maximum of 10 minutes.
