Cycle of conferences on post-colonial studies from Latin America
Cycle de conférences sur les études postcoloniales depuis l'Amérique latine
Ciclo de conferencias sobre los estudios poscoloniales desde América latina

Abstract
This first edition of the Conference Series on Postcolonial Studies from Latin America — conducted in collaboration with the Department of Languages — arose from a particular concern: what does it mean to engage with Latin American thought from France? In an article that also serves as a statement of position, historian Serge Gruzinski attempts to answer this question: France is a place where it is possible to seek a new conception of the relationship between Europe and America, far from the reductions that certain intellectual traditions—notably American postcolonial studies—have made of Latin America.

However, postcolonial studies are far from forming a homogeneous entity and have now become a truly Latin American critical tradition, particularly in the form of decolonial theory. Nevertheless, we wish to take up Gruzinski’s invitation and make France a place where it is possible not only to rethink the relationship between America and Europe, but also to critically question Latin American thought itself.
Finally, the Conference Series on Postcolonial Studies from Latin America is part of the plan to create a junior laboratory, where students from the Department of Languages could meet to discuss this field of research in greater depth, from perspectives that go beyond Latin America. We therefore warmly invite anyone interested in postcolonial issues to join us for these seminars and to contribute perspectives from other fields; indeed, we see these seminars as the starting point for this dialogue.
These Conferences are intended as an introduction to research conducted by young researchers on Latin America. They aim in particular to explore new critical avenues taken by the field of postcolonial studies, as well as to examine the perspectives offered by Anglo-Saxon postcolonial studies and the Latin American giro decolonial.
Beyond reflecting on postcolonial criticism, these Conferences provide an opportunity to examine new genres of cultural production, as well as forms of identity, that have emerged in Latin America following the questioning of this tradition.
