Presentation

Since 2021, Quo Vadis has provided a discussion space in the form of a German/French-language forum on the Middle Ages. This forum is intended for students and individuals with research experience at all levels of qualification from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. This online workspace presents and discusses innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to medieval research projects, resulting in new syntheses that broaden research perspectives. Our goal is to engage a diverse audience with a broad range of interests in medieval studies and create a collaborative forum that transcends national borders. We aim to openly engage with one another beyond traditional formats.

For the summer term of 2026, we are seeking young researchers whose projects offer an interdisciplinary perspective on medieval studies. Discussions are welcome on historical auxiliary sciences, such as codicology, diplomatics, and chronology, as well as the entire methodological and theoretical spectrum of medieval studies. Presentations will be limited to 20 minutes and will be followed by a discussion session. In this session, participants will discuss the topics, sources, methods, and challenges in a solution-oriented manner, drawing on their interdisciplinary practical experience. The working languages are German, French, and English, and participants may choose their preferred language.

Submission guidelines

Applications are open for the summer term, running from May to July 2026. Your application should include a short abstract of your research project (no more than 300 words) and an academic CV written in French, English, or German. Please send your application as a PDF to quovadis@geschichte.uni-freiburg.de by April 7, 2026, at the latest. We will respond by April 13, 2026, at the latest.
