Presentation

The Musicology research group “Music and Society” at the Institución Milá y Fontanals de Investigación en Humanidades (IMF), part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), invites expressions of interest from outstanding postdoctoral researchers wishing to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF 2026) with our group as host institution in Barcelona.

Our group investigates the social, cultural, and historical dimensions of music, with particular strengths in historical musicology, early music, and music and oral traditions. We also foster interdisciplinary perspectives that situate music within broader societal processes. We particularly welcome proposals engaging with music and politics, cultural history of music, global music history and global musicology, digital musicology, and other innovative approaches to music research.

The group offers a dynamic research environment within IMF-CSIC and access to specialised infrastructure, including a specialised humanities library, as well as the MusicLab, an audiovisual laboratory equipped for advanced audio and video recording, editing, and digital research practices.

In addition, the group has developed major open-access digital resources, such as Fondo de Música Tradicional and Books of Hispanic Polyphony, which support research on traditional music, as well as on early music repertoires, and digital approaches to musicology.
