Présentation

Le colloque international Religion et territoire est organisé par le réseau Eurel de juristes et sociologues de la religion (www.eurel.info, projet du centre de recherche PRISME-SDRE UMR 7012, CNRS – Université de Strasbourg), et le Center for Research on Socio-Cultural Change, CRESC, Université de Manchester.

L'étude empirique et quantitative de la géographie religieuse est un sujet nouveau, auquel le développement constant d‘outils techniques et conceptuels promet de nombreuses opportunités. Depuis la prise en compte de la dimension spatiale dans l'étude du religieux, le "tournant spatial", nous avons beaucoup à apprendre des mécanismes spatiaux du changement religieux. Et, bien que des progrès notables aient été accomplis sur la question de la géographie religieuse, de vastes perspectives s’offrent encore à la recherche, notamment pour l'analyse spatiale de données religieuses avec les méthodes formelles : un champ nouveau et prometteur est ouvert.

La diversité religieuse grandissante de l'Europe fait surgir de nouveaux défis sociaux et institutionnels. Les réponses ont été très diverses, variant à la fois d'un pays à l'autre et entre les différents niveaux de gouvernance d’un même pays. La bioéthique, le statut des minorités religieuses, les écoles confessionnelles et l'enseignement religieux, la séparation de l'Etat et des religions, la religion dans l'espace public, la prise en compte du radicalisme religieux sont autant de lieux où interagissent institutions juridiques, intérêts politiques et opinion publique, de façon diverse et par delà les frontières spatiales, nationales et institutionnelles.

Les juristes, sociologues et géographes n'en trouveront que plus d'intérêt à s'engager dans un débat empirique sur le changement religieux.
