Summary

Scholars are invited to propose an abstract for the Second Annual Conference of ALTER-ESDR. The aim is that the members propose papers that are relevant to the lives of people with disabilities in European contexts. Scholars are encouraged to focus on issues that are scholarly, critical, and cutting-edge in disability research, including research that captures contemporary societal issues, the voice of disabled people, advocacy, and policy.

Orientation and theme

ALTER - European Society for Disability Research was founded in 2011 from the Editorial Board of the Journal Alter-European Journal of Disability Research as an international society with the aim of fostering scholarly and interdisciplinary research that ranges across all aspects of science and scholarship, advocacy, and policy. It is an open intellectual society that welcomes all with an interest in disability without exception or particular orientation. The society is founded with a focus on Europe and is welcoming scholars from all parts of the world.

Scholars are invited to propose an abstract for the Second Annual Conference of ALTER-ESDR. The aim is that the members propose papers that are relevant to the lives of people with disabilities in European contexts. Scholars are encouraged to focus on issues that are scholarly, critical, and cutting-edge in disability research, including research that captures contemporary societal issues, the voice of disabled people, advocacy, and policy.

The conference will comprise a ‘live’ as well as a ‘virtual’ dimension. The live dimension will feature selected presentations that will be brought to an audience. The virtual dimension will feature spoken and/or visual pre-recorded presentations broadcasted during the Conference, that can be accessed through the internet.

Submission guidelines

An abstract of maximum 300 words in Times New Roman (12 pt. font) should be submitted by

28 February 2013

at alteresdr@gmail.org. The abstract should be submitted in English and should contain the following information:

  • Title of presentation
  • First and last name, followed by affiliation
  • Indication of format: indicate ‘live presentation’ or ‘podcast presentation’.

The notification of acceptance of abstracts will be sent at the latest by 31 March 2013.

Information on podcast presentations

Podcast presentation files can be sent as a spoken file in MP3 format. It is possible to also produce a film that should be uploaded on YouTube. It is assumed that podcast presenters will not attend the conference.

Languages of the Conference

The languages of the Conference will be English and French. For practical reasons, the abstracts submitted to the Scientific Committee should be in English (a French version may also be included when appropriate).
