The Political Science Department of Sciences Po Paris announces the opening of a full-time tenured professorship (French public employment status) in political theory / political philosophy preferably specializing in questions of Rights, Justice and Democracy.

Sciences Po is an independent university offering high-level educational programs in social sciences and a network of strategic alliances with top international universities. Sciences Po is also an international research university with 11 research and data centres.

Teaching and research profile

Candidates should either be “Professeur des Universités” according to French regulations or hold an equivalent position outside of France (Lecturer/Professor).

Applicants should be internationally recognized by their research and their publications.

Teaching load: 3 lecture classes or their hourly equivalent (seminars, tutorials) at undergraduate, graduate and PhD track levels in Paris (we expect willingness to teach at one of the 7 regional campuses at the undergraduate level).

The successful candidate will lead his/her research programme in one of the following research centres of Sciences Po : Cevipof, CERI, Centre de droit. He/she will participate and contribute actively to its on-going research programmes.

Salary and career management: according to French University regulations.

Required qualifications

Teaching

  • Capacity to teach courses in political theory / political philosophy at all levels (BA, MA, PhD).
  • Capacity to teach in French and English.
  • Willingness to supervise Ph.D. dissertations.
  • Interest and knowledge of other disciplines of the social sciences.

Research

  • Capacity to conduct innovative research.
  • Excellent publication record.
  • Capacity and willingness to compete for selective funding programs (such as EU framework programs).

  • A cover letter with a statement of research interests.
  • A detailed curriculum vitae, including list of publications, list of classes taught.
  • An outline of the applicant’s research programme (not more than 4000 words).
  • Three of his/her most important publications.
