Anúncio
Arabian Humanities n° 4 - Call for papers: The Arab spring in the Arabian Peninsula
Argument
While protest movements since early 2011 in the Arabian Peninsula may not have been at the core of international media and academic attention, they have sometimes profoundly impacted the various political systems of the six Gulf monarchies and of the Yemeni republic. Directly, in reaction or even by anticipation, ruling elites and decision makers have adapted to a new local, regional and international context.
Arabian Humanities wishes to publish a special issue dealing with the impact of the Arab spring on the GCC states and Yemen. The papers will be written by specialists from the various disciplines of the social sciences with a direct experience of fieldwork in the Arabian Peninsula and with access to first hand Arabic sources. For this issue, it is recommended to submit articles in English only – please note that they will benefit, as usual, Englishediting.
We are looking for articles of roughly 9 000 words dealing both with the protests themselves and their short term and long term impact on the societies and the regimes. The editors wish to encourage both articles dealing with single cases studies and comparative papers dealing with more than one country. The single case papers will for example shed light on the specificities of each country, analyzing the different sectarian contexts, the various political landscapes, the specific geopolitical insertion. Beyond these case studies, the editors strongly encourage the authors to submit articles on transversal issues, like the counter-revolutionary measures, the Sunni/Shia sectarian divide, the security cooperation, the evolution of redistribution policies or the repression of the Muslim Brotherhood current.
