Abstract
The position is in the Bible Department of Theologicum—the Faculty of Theology and Religious Sciences of the (Catholic University of Paris). The position is a full time post responsible for teaching and research in the field of New Testament exegesis, with special emphasis on the Gospels (synoptic Gospels and Saint John).

The position is a full time post responsible for teaching and research in the field of New Testament exegesis, with special emphasis on the Gospels (synoptic Gospels and Saint John).
Candidate Profile
The candidate for the position must have a doctorate in Catholic Theology (doctorat canonique). In addition to the candidate’s level of academic accomplishment, consideration will be given to the candidate’s teaching skills and qualities as well as his or her aptitude to engage in dynamic instruction and research. In addition, the candidate will demonstrate a capacity for teamwork in the context of Theologicum’s overall teaching mission. The candidate will demonstrate mastery of both written and spoken French. The candidate’s ability to teach a course in English is a skill that will also be taken into account.
It is desirable that the candidate have at least 5 years teaching experience after the publication of the thesis, that he/she has supervised at least 5 theses successfully and shown his/her capabilities through international publications.
University Responsibilities
As an instructor-researcher in New Testament exegesis, the candidate will teach courses in this field at both the undergraduate level (Baccalauréat canonique) and Master level (License canonique). More specifically, he or she could be asked to teach courses on the Gospels (synoptic Gospels and Saint John). The candidate will be expected to participate in methodology modules, educational workshops and interdisciplinary seminars. He or she will direct Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations and may be asked to participate in teaching at the doctoral level.
The candidate’s research activities will be linked to the research unit of the University. The candidate will also devote a part of his or her time to administrative responsibilities necessary for the proper functioning of Theologicum.
Status and Compensation
The candidate’s compensation will be commensurate with that of an instructor-researcher of the same level at the University. The first year will represent a trial period with a one year contract (contrat de durée déterminée). At the end of the first year, the candidate will be evaluated and considered for appointment to the faculty by election
Calendar
- The call for candidates began in February 2014 and will end on 15 April 2014.
- Interviews will take place in Paris during the month of May 2014 for invited candidates.
- All candidates will receive a final reply in June 2014.
Candidate’s File
The candidate’s file will include the following documents:
- Copy of the candidate’s passport;
- Curriculum vitae including detailed description of all courses and seminars that the candidate has taught, of all directions of Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations (if any);
- Copies of all university diplomas;
- Candidate’s doctoral dissertation and the examiners’ report;
- Two letters of recommendation;
- List of the candidate’s publications and copies of major publications (no more than 5);
- Text of 2 to 3 pages in which the candidate presents his or her current and prospective fields of research;
- All foreign language administrative documents must be translated into French.
