Abstract

The goal of this workshop is to bring together different cognitive and functional linguistic approaches to emotion studies that are currently prominent in this field of research. The workshop will open with a lecture by one of the most important contributors to linguistic theory on emotions, which will be followed by three representative empirical studies that employ different approaches to observational data.

The goal of this workshop is to bring together different cognitive and functional linguistic approaches to emotion studies that are currently prominent in this field of research. The workshop will open with a lecture by one of the most important contributors to linguistic theory on emotions, which will be followed by three representative empirical studies that employ different approaches to observational data. The questions addressed in this workshop will focus, among others, on the following issues:

  • Cross-cultural variation in emotions
  • Cognitive and contextual factors in emotions
  • Emotions in interaction
  • Figurative language in emotions
  • Multimodal structure of emotions
  • Emotional expression in children
  • Structuring of emotion categories
