The digital turn is increasing the interest for data among the humanities. Data will be produced almost automatically regarding to methods like text recognition and text mining. On the one hand, the work with data offers new challenges for humanities scholars according to its quantity (keyword: Big Data) and its quality (the high error rate of produced data). On the other hand, it reveals unknown and exciting insights and analysis. Submissions according to this topic will be given preference.

The Research Center Digital Humanities at the University of Innsbruck, the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities, CLARIN and DARIAH-AT invite you to submit proposals for the 4^th Digital Humanities Austria Conference that takes place in Innsbruck from December the 4^th till December the 6th, 2017.

We invite proposals in all areas of Digital Humanities research and related fields that work with digital methods, resources and data.

Proposals

Proposals can be submitted for paper presentations, panels, workshops, posters and demonstrations ("Tools Gallery").  Abstracts that will be uploaded at Conftool are considered as proposals.

The digital world of the humanities consists of digital corpora production and archiving, source-critical controlling, data analysis, interpretation and visualization. New methods, techniques and workflows will be developed for these processes. These diverse opportunities are the center of the conference and the call.

Presentations

Presentations provide a glimpse of research results and current research projects

• Proposal: Abstract of 700 words
• Form: 20’ presentation and 10’ discussion

Panels (TBD)

Panels gather important actors of the DH for a specific topic and offer the opportunity for the audience to discuss controversy topics; Panels should not consist of participants of the same project!

• Proposal: Panel abstract of max. 300 words; individual presentation abstract of 700 words
• Form: max. 5 participants, 60’ panel discussion, 30’ Q&A from the audience

Workshops

Workshops offer in-depth knowledge of dealing with methods and tools plus directly involve participants

• Proposal: Abstract of 500 words
• Form: 1.5-3h with limited number of participants
• Please state special (technical) requirements in your abstract

Posters

Posters provide the opportunity to present not finished projects or detailed research results

• Proposal: Abstract of 500 words
• Form: A1 to A0 print out (please use recyclable materials)
• 5’ presentation
• Personal presence at the poster session on Tuesday, December the 5th, 2017

dha Tools Gallery (Demonstrations)

The dha Tools Gallery is the fixed point of every DHA conference
