Abstract

The editors are looking for articles, translations, interviews as well as book or performance reviews. América Crítica is a peer reviewed, biannual journal published by CISAP (Centro Interdipartimentale di Studi sull’America Pluriversale) at the University of Cagliari, Italy. It publishes unsolicited articles related to any area of American Studies, Latin American Studies and Hemispheric American Studies (literature, history, linguistics, arts, cultural studies, film studies, politics, social sciences and anthropology). It especially welcomes contributions focusing on a comparative approach, native and/or minority cultures in the Americas, American urban cultures, and marginal and contested cultures and identities in the Americas.

The editors are looking for articles, translations, interviews as well as book or performance reviews. América Crítica is a peer reviewed, biannual journal published by CISAP (Centro Interdipartimentale di Studi sull’America Pluriversale) at the University of Cagliari, Italy. It publishes unsolicited articles related to any area of American Studies, Latin American Studies and Hemispheric American Studies (literature, history, linguistics, arts, cultural studies, film studies, politics, social sciences and anthropology). It especially welcomes contributions focusing on a comparative approach, native and/or minority cultures in the Americas, American urban cultures, and marginal and contested cultures and identities in the Americas. América Crítica publishes articles in French, English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. Contributions in American native languages are also welcome, provided that an English, Italian or Spanish translation is provided.

Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions. 

Author Guidelines

América Crítica will publish articles after double-blind peer review, reviews and translations.

Articles should be between 4,000 and 8,000 words, notes and bibliography included. The Editorial Board retains the right to publish longer contributions.

Reviews should not exceed 1,200 words.

América Crítica will publish articles in French, English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

Contributes in other languages are also welcome, provided that a translation into English, Italian or Spanish.

Along with their contribution, authors should submit, in both English and one of the languages of the journal:

  • a short summary (150-200 words)
  • five keywords
  • brief biographical notes
  • academic affiliation.

Authors are asked to adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style (Author-Date).

América Crítica is now accepting submissions through April 20, 2018.

Submission Preparation Checklist

  • As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
