This PhD conference is a student-led initiative. It will offer an international platform for exchange with fellow doctoral researchers, senior academics, and experts. The conference will include two keynote lectures, parallel sessions, a guided poster walk, lunch, refreshments and one conference dinner.

Presentation

This conference stems from the collaboration of IDS with other development institutes across Europe: the School of International Development at the University of East Anglia (UK); the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), the Erasmus University of Rotterdam (The Netherlands); the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE) at the Ruhr-University Bochum, the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF), Duisburg, Essen and the Institute of Political Science (IfP), (Germany).

We invite submissions of current or recently-graduated doctoral researchers in the field of development studies and related disciplines. Applicants do not need to be affiliated with any of the institutions listed above.

Submission guidelines

The Call for Abstracts is open until the 15 May 2019

on topics that address or touch on, one or several of the following sub-themes:

1. Deconstructing frames of inequalities
2. Sustainability in times of uncertainty
3. Partnerships and collaborations in development
4. Inclusivity and reflexivity in research methods

The abstracts (500 words) should include the methodological or theoretical approach, the preferred sub-theme, full name, institutional affiliation, contact details and be sent to phd.conference19@ids.ac.uk by 15 May 2019.

Successful candidates will be notified by 15 June 2019.
