Abstract

The Department of Social Sciences of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) is inviting applications for the following position: Full Professor (100%) in Social Anthropology.The candidate has a doctorate and a habilitation or equivalent qualification. He or she has pedagogical experience at the University level and is qualified to teach in Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs. She/he has a broad knowledge of Social Anthropology (theories, concepts and methods). We are seeking a scholar with an expertise in political anthropology and solid experience in ethnographic field research.

Qualification, skills

The candidate has a doctorate and a habilitation or equivalent qualification. He or she has pedagogical experience at University level and is qualified to teach in Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs.

The successful candidate must have a broad knowledge of Social Anthropology (theories, concepts and methods). As Professor at the bilingual University of Freiburg, she/he will build bridges between German, French and Anglo-Saxon academic traditions.

We are seeking a scholar with an expertise in political anthropology and solid experience in ethnographic field research. Possible research areas are: social, political and cultural change, environment and sustainability, Eastern Europe and/or post-socialist societies.

The candidate must be skilled project manager and highly competent in applying for external research funding. She/he has an international profile and existing cooperation in Switzerland is an advantage.

Courses will be taught in German, and at minimum, a passive knowledge of French is required with the willingness to improve its command within two years.
