Claudine Eizykman : faire penser le cinéma
Published on Friday, July 19, 2019
Abstract

Argument
This symposium takes place among several events dedicated to the uniqueness of Claudine Eizykman’s (1945 - 2018) achievements in cinema from the Seventies to 2018. A major figure of French experimental film renaissance since the Seventies, she was a filmmaker, a theoretician, teacher at Paris 8 Vincennes University, co-founder of the Paris Films Coop in 1974 and of Cinedoc in 1979, author of La jouissance cinema in 1975, publisher of the avant-garde film review Melba, programmer of Un cabinet d’amateur for the French cinematheque, of Ciné-Immatériaux et the Pompidou Centre, of the Rubans Urbains and Rendez-vous du cinéma expérimental at the Forum des Images, she has made a dozen films and video and - in cooperation with Guy Fihman - ten holographic movies as well as their devices of recording and presentation.
The symposium aims at reconsidering her multi faceted activities, their interconnexions and coherence according to what she named her holistic method, neglecting none of the aspects implied in putting back avant-garde and experimental film on the agenda, from its material and political conditions of existence up to a radical rebuilding of film theory. Through the concepts of NRI (narration représentation industrielle) to film-après-coup, it is the whole of cinema that is comprehended from film constituents and the avant-garde film considered as expérience originaire (native experience).
The Symposium will be preceded by the publication of a collection of her writings, « Le film-après-coup », at Presses Universitaires de Vincennes, as well as the release of a DVD box of the integral of her films edited by Cinédoc Paris Films Coop and accompanied by a complete retrospective of her films.
