Abstract

We invite applications from scholars with documented research interests in the domains of environmental history, the history of knowledge, or science/technology history, and with a focus on the 19th to the 21st centuries. The professor will have to develop innovative teaching and research at the Department of History in the domain of the History of the Anthropocene, with a concentration in, for example, climate, plants, animals, energy, resources or environment.

Professorship

The University of Zurich invites applications for a professorship in the history of the anthropocene (open rank)

The position should be filled by 1 February 2022. Depending on qualifications, the appointee will be hired as full/associate professor or as assistant professor with tenure track.

We invite applications from scholars with documented research interests in the domains of environmental history, the history of knowledge, or science/technology history, and with a focus on the 19th to the 21st centuries. The professor will have to develop innovative teaching and research at the Department of History in the domain of the History of the Anthropocene, with a concentration in, for example, climate, plants, animals, energy, resources or environment.

Requirements

Junior applicants should have submitted their doctoral dissertation, while applicants to a senior position should moreover demonstrate substantial additional research or a second book in the domain of the History of the Anthropocene. Teaching  experience is expected from all applicants. The University of Zurich is an equal opportunities employer and in particular strives to increase the percentage of women in leading positions. Teaching languages are English and German. Non-German speaking candidates are expected to acquire a professional knowledge of German within the first three years of appointment.
