Abstract
At the centre of this Forum discussions, the Conseil Européen pour les Langues / European Language Council (CEL/ELC) will underline the role that higher education can and should play in the promotion and development of multilingualism as a key aspect of European cooperation – related to facets such as language policy, internationalisation, language and knowledge, education and mobility, to mention just a few. In this context, participants will also be expected to reflect on the future role of the CEL/ELC by identifying and analysing new challenges that have arisen in our changing world.

Presentation
Since 2008, the Conseil Européen pour les Langues / European Language Council (CEL/ELC) has hosted a Forum every two years. These Fora seek to bring together representatives of higher education institutions, of European institutions and organisations, such as, for example, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of Europe, and of European associations like the European University Association (EUA) as well as scholars with a special interest in European integration, policy development, and multilingualism. At the centre of this year’s discussions will be the role that higher education can and should play in the promotion and development of multilingualism as a key aspect of European cooperation – related to facets such as language policy, internationalisation, language and knowledge, education and mobility, to mention just a few. In this context, participants will also be expected to reflect on the future role of the CEL/ELC by identifying and analysing new challenges that have arisen in our changing world.
The CEL/ELC invites ELC members (institutions and individuals) - representatives from higher education institutions, policy makers and scholars with a keen interest in European affairs, especially in the area of languages -, to prepare contributions and reflections on, among others, the following topics:
- challenges for languages (learning and teaching) in education
- challenges for the development and implementation of language policies in higher education institutions
- challenges for multilingualism in sectors, such as business and health
- the impact of virtualization on multilingualism and the current “crisis” of internationalisation and globalization
- languages, rights and citizenship in a changing world.
