The conference is made possible thanks to the Sorbonne Développement Durable association and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. The purpose of Sorbonne Sustainable Development is to train a new generation of researchers and decision-makers who will have the disciplinary expertise and interdisciplinary knowledge fit to address and solve sustainable development’s societal challenges. University Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne is the first fully COP certified university and the UN academic impact program’s human rights hub.

Objectives

For the First International Conference on Sustainable Development, the aim is every participant to think about the box to present their research. Participants are allowed to use any materials (video, artwork, presentation, etc.) to show their idea, research, proposal within 20 minutes and 10 minutes of Q&A. The conference’s core is to put aside the discipline constraints each Ph.D. student has, such as the methodology or the lack of freedom. At the end of the conference, a summary will be proposed to the SDD association, gathering all brilliants ideas. It will provide the foundation for future work and cooperation between academic departments among universities. Hence, each discipline represented during the conference will get an equal weight on the outcome.

Priority is given to the Ph.D. candidates to present their researches in line with sustainable developments, such as climate change mitigation, adaptation, and finance, among others. The conference’s primary outcome would be to shape the ground for a brighter future, where each scientific discipline can contribute equally to the debate surrounding sustainable development.

One of the conference’s primary purposes is to gather Ph.D. students around sustainable development topics to emerge fresh ideas. The conference is slightly different from the mainstream ones so that ideas come from the young generation of researchers. A scientific committee will be in place to monitor the debates without interfering with the outcome.
