Announcement

Journal Temporalities and societies, Published by the Haitian Center for Social Science Research, Volume 1, Issue 2, December 2021

The Journal

Temporalities and Societies is a peer-reviewed academic journal based on the “double-blind” procedure. It focuses on research on organizational dynamics, governance systems, as well as crises and changes in contemporary societies. It publishes works by researchers from various horizons articulating local, national, and global temporalities. The journal is published on a semi-annual basis.

RT&S is a publication of the Haitian Center for Research in Social Sciences (CHARESSO).

Rationale

For nearly two years, Covid-19 has disrupted societies and radically changed daily lives around the world (Lazar et al, 2020. Nesteruk, 2021, Walther, 2021). The new situation generated by the pandemic induces a set of new problems that force us to rethink key aspects of our lives as individuals, groups, institutions, and societies (“Covid-19, confinement et addictions, 2020”; Mora, 2021; Torales et al., 2020). At the same time, Covid-19 has highlighted deep health and socioeconomic inequalities within and between societies (Wallace & Wallace, 2021). The success of many vaccines promises and provides solutions, but at the same time highlights these same inequalities as well as their level of structuring (Vaughan, 2021). Thus, Covid-19 has offered social sciences research a new field and new responsibilities while creating new opportunities for theoretical and methodological innovations (Bavel et al, 2020. Connell, 2020. Lazar et al, 2020).

In this particular context of crisis, this special issue aims to offer a critical assessment of the role of the social sciences in the response to the pandemic, as well as the   challenges of post-Covid-19 societies. It welcomes (trans)disciplinary contributions using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed approaches. International comparisons are also encouraged.

We invite contributors to explore vast areas of interest that include in particular:

  • Epistemological and methodological issues for social science research in times of pandemic.
  • Social science research on  Covid-19: New research fields and new opportunities for methodological innovations.
  • Critical assessment of the role of the social sciences in the management of the pandemic, as well as the perspectives of the post-Covid-19 society.
  • The effects of Covid-19 on inequalities within and between societies.
  • Education in social sciences in the time of Covid-19.
  • Administrative management methods of the Covid-19 crisis: the integration of emergency regimes in the contemporary rule of law.
  • Administrative police and state of health emergency.
  • Covid-19 and time (temporalities).
  • Health crisis and worsening of psychological disorders.
  • Covid-19 and global economic implications.
  • The world of culture and Covid-19: art, culture, and heritage.
