Summary
A wide variety of terms is used today to describe the region that lies between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas, such as Central Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Central-Eastern Europe, East Central Europe and Europe médiane. However, the absence of a clear definition of the region continues to challenge researchers.

The Institute of Political Studies (ISP) of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and the Europes-Eurasia Research Centre (CREE) of the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (Inalco) organize the conference “What is Central Europe and what is Eastern Europe? The name of the region in the academic discourse in Poland and France”.
