Abstract
The Institute of Sport Sciences is seeking to appoint a research associate in the field of political sciences / sociology / gender studies and sport, in order to support the development of Global Observatory for Women, Sport, Physical Education and Physical Activity. The creation of the Global Observatory fulfills one of the objectives of the Kazan action plan, adopted in 2017 by the International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS) of UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation). The Research Associate will support the advancement of research evidence and the development of independent and harmonized monitoring, evaluation and sector analysis methodologies on gender equality and sport commitments in all regions of the world.

Short presentation of the Global Observatory for Women, Sport, Physical Edication and Physical Activity
The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) appointed the Canton of Vaud, the City Council of Lausanne and the University of Lausanne (UNIL) the responsibility to ensure the creation of the Global Observatory for Women, Sport, Physical Education and Physical Activity (hereafter: Global Observatory).
University of Lausanne along with the Canton of Vaud and the City Council of Lausanne have co-founded an association for the creation of The Global Observatory in 2021.
The creation of the Global Observatory fulfills one of the objectives of the Kazan action plan, adopted in 2017 by the International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Edication and Sport (MINEPS) of UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation), which brought together 121 Member States.
The Global Observatory has three main objectives in the field of sport and physical activity:
- to guide governmental and non-governmental actors in the design of action plans enabling them to achieve gender equality;
- to document and create unified evaluation methodologies for independent monitoring of measures taken to promote gender equality;
- to connect different partners in order to facilitate coordination and knowledge exchange and amplify the impact and dissemination of information on gender equality.

Your responsibilities
As part of their commitment to assist the Global Observatory’s efforts to put in place data and research that will make it possible to measure the evolution of gender inequalities in sport, identify the difficulties and facilitate changes for greater equality between men and women in and through sport, UNIL will provide this Research associate position to an outstanding candidate who can develop the foundation for the Global Observatory’s Research, monitoring and evaluation work in coordination with the Director/CEO of the Global Obseravtory.
In the absence of centralized global monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for gender equality in sport, physical education and physical activity and of co-ordination and visibility of international research and initiatives in the field, the Global Observatory will strive to become a leading global convener of expertise and audit to build on the extraordinary efforts already underway, and to amplify and empower women in sport and the women and sport movement. The Research Associate will works towards fulfilling one of the major work streams of the Global Observatory: Evidence & Improve.
The Research Associate will support the advancement of research evidence and the development of independent and harmonized monitoring, evaluation and sector analysis methodologies on gender equality and sport commitments in all regions of the world.
This position is aimed at early or mid-career academics with exciting and innovative qualitative as well as quantitative research expertise in the field of sport for development and gender and/or sport policy. We wish to appoint the right candidate with potential to head the research initiatives of the Global Observatory in near future.
